Our most recent project was Animation Basics with Adobe Animate, where we had to make an animation of an apple on a skateboard going across the screen and getting closer as the animation progressed. This project was fairly easy and took only about 2-3 days while still teaching me a few lessons about Adobe Animate. I learned how to use Animate pretty quickly through the multiple video tutorials and simply going through Animate to see what things do, and found making these animations very simple. For the apple, I had to animate it with a looping animation of him kicking and pushing the skateboard over, although it didn’t show in the final product it was easy to do. Then, I had to make the apple skate across the screen, this could be done the same way it is in After Effects, by sliding him in another position and adding a keyframe. You can do the same thing when making the apple bigger and adding the effect of it getting closer, by enlarging it at the end to the desired size and adding a keyframe. I also had to add an animation of the clouds and sun moving through the sky at different speeds than the apple, which was the easiest part. For the clouds, I made two different layers with lines to represent the two clouds, made one darker to show you they are different clouds and made them move at different speeds in the sky. For the sun I simply made a yellow circle in the sky, and that’s where I learned that apparently the outline and fill are different things, because when moving the sun to a different area the stroke stays there and just leaves a yellow outline of a circle. I made the sun move the slowest to be realistic and moved it to the back layer behind the clouds. Finally, I was done with the animation and learned Animate is not as difficult that I imagine but more like a different version of other adobe products.

In class we needed to create an animated “sketchy” gif in photoshop. This could be done with the Timeline tool, which puts a series of images up for a specific amount of time for it to appear animated. For this project I made a crow with the “sketchy” animation style.
To make this animation, I had to get an image of something of my choosing, which was a crow, and then add a gradient to the back. The gradient I chose was purple to orange, to mimic one of the first photoshop projects we made which was the colorization of images, where I made a lake purple-ish with an orange sunset sky. I then made another gradient above the crow, lowered the opacity, masked the background of the crow image to show the gradient behind it, and that way it showed the crow with the color gradient on it while also being visible above the first one. The next step for this project was to draw over the object in a very sketchy style 10 times, although each frame could be done quickly it did take a while for me to make them all. At last at this point I only had to animate it, this was done by going to ‘window>timeline>create frame animation’, setting the delay between images/ how long the image is up for to 0, and setting it to loop forever. Although most the things done in this project involved lessons I’ve already learned, I still learned a few things, like always checking the second monitor for a pop-up, and always look thoroughly through the video tutorials as little things can mess you up. Even though this project was slightly difficult at times, I still enjoyed it greatly and hope to do more in the future. |
